Theme:African Languages as Solutions to the Economic, Social and Environmental Challenges in Africa

The 31st West African Languages Congress will be held at the Félix Houphouêt-Boigny University, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire from 11-15 August 2019. The congress is organized by the West African Linguistic Society (WALS).

The theme of the congress is "African Languages as Solutions to the Economic, Social and Environmental Challenges in Africa" and the organizers invite papers on the following subthemes:

  • Standardization of African languages
  • Terminology innovation in African languages
  • Linguistic diversity and biodiversity in West Africa
  • Languages and conflict resolution mechanisms in West Africa.
  • Languages and Preservation of animal and plant species in West Africa.
  • Promotion of Human Rights and Democracy through Languages in West Africa
The deadline for submitting proposals is 31 May 2019.
