Recent News News Archive | Yearly Seminar of the Finnish Literary Research Society (KTS) | 21.12.2018 | ![]()
The Finnish Literary Research Society (KTS) is holding its next yearly seminar at the University of Oulu, in May 2019. The theme of the seminar is "Memory and Imagination". On their website, it reads of the seminar: "Memory and imagination have been also explored by many other art forms besides literature. Memory studies are important to many scholarly fields, in which the frameworks of the remembrance and narration of the past are being created. The gradation from memory to knowledge and narration is thus not always unambiguous but requires the critical assessment of methodical approaches. This year, the theme of the annual seminar of the Finnish Literary Research Society is the examination of the relationship between memory and imagination. The theme allows for multidisciplinary approaches to literary cultures. We hope that perspectives from cultural studies, philology, philosophy of history, history and the history of ideas, cultural geography, Saami studies, and many other fields will enrich our understanding of the part literature plays in the formation of cultural memory. Philosophical and methodological approaches and thematic working groups from other disciplines are also welcome. The conference is likewise open to the presentations of research projects. The abstracts can approach theme of the conference from, for example, the following points-of view: - Private and collective memory - The processes of remembrance and forgetting - The invented histories of fantasy - Memory as an instrument of perception or understanding the present - Remembrance as a creative process - Possible worlds and remembrance - Remembrance, transnationalism and cultural encounters - Remembrance and trauma - Memory and the arts - Memory and oral history " For more information on the conference in genereal, see the society's website. Deadline for submitting abstracts is 31 January 2019. | |||||||||
